The new UAE traffic law tightens driving rules to improve road safety and accountability.

The UAE government has issued a new traffic decree-law aimed at significantly enhancing road safety, driver accountability, and traffic discipline across the Emirates. The law introduces stricter requirements for obtaining a driving licence, including clearer eligibility conditions, updated medical fitness standards, and enhanced training protocols for new drivers.

According to the new regulation, all applicants must now complete a comprehensive driving education programme that focuses on practical road behaviour, hazard perception, and responsible driving principles. Authorities will also constantly supervise driving schools to ensure they follow the newly established safety framework. The goal is to prevent accidents and foster a safe driving culture across the country.

The rule also increases fines for violations like reckless driving, speeding, and distracted driving. Depending on the seriousness of the offence, these punishments may include increased fines, licence suspensions, and obligatory re-education courses. Authorities believe that aligning the traffic system with global safety standards will foster a safer and more efficient road environment for residents and visitors alike.

The public response has been overwhelmingly favourable, with many applauding the government’s proactive attitude to modernising traffic regulations and saving lives. With its clear focus on long-term safety and education, the new decree-law marks a significant step forward in the UAE’s vision of building a world-class road infrastructure supported by informed and responsible drivers.
