Saudi Arabia has improved facilities in Mecca to accommodate the projected millions of pilgrims for Hajj in 2025. A total of 235,000 square meters of walkways have been expanded and an additional 60,000 prayer spaces added, reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to ensuring comfort, safety, and spiritual serenity for worshippers.
The extension is part of a larger effort to modernise Mecca’s pilgrimage infrastructure while maintaining its hallowed traditions. The upgraded pathways will improve crowd movement and alleviate congestion in crucial areas, particularly during peak worship times. Authorities also emphasised the need to improve accessibility for elderly and disabled pilgrims.
Saudi officials emphasised that these advancements are only one part of a larger Hajj readiness strategy that includes improved emergency protocols, multilingual digital guiding systems, and climate-responsive shelters. These enhancements are being overseen by a special Hajj operations committee that works around the clock to organise logistics, health services, and crowd control.
With more than two million pilgrims expected in 2025, the Kingdom’s proactive initiatives aim to raise the Hajj experience to new heights. Saudi Arabia maintains its role as protector of Islam’s holiest sites and host of one of the world’s greatest religious gatherings by combining tradition, technology, and thoughtful infrastructure design.
