UAE Travellers Pay Thousands Amid Israel-Iran Airspace Chaos

admin

As tensions rise in the Israel-Iran dispute, UAE travellers are bearing the burden of broad airspace closures, particularly those visiting Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries. The unexpected suspension and rerouting of flights has resulted in rising return ticket costs.

One UAE-based family was stranded on a holiday in a CIS country and reported paying more than Dh6,000 for alternate flights back home. With direct routes barred owing to the fighting, passengers are forced to take lengthy detours through Europe or South-east Asia, increasing both expenses and travel times.

Travel agents across the UAE confirmed a surge in queries and booking requests from panicked travellers. “We are seeing a 250% spike in emergency bookings, especially from Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan,” said one Dubai-based agent.

Authorities have urged UAE residents abroad to stay in contact with local embassies, avoid conflict zones, and follow airlines’ updates. Meanwhile, regional carriers continue to adjust operations to ensure safety amid volatile geopolitical conditions.
