The UAE is experiencing a severe summer heatwave, with temperatures reaching 49.8°C in Al Dhafra, Abu Dhabi, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM). The weather service has issued numerous alerts encouraging citizens to take precautions, particularly during peak afternoon hours.
Along with the excessive heat, the NCM warned of humid nights, hazy early mornings, and strong winds, especially in coastal and interior areas. Authorities have asked motorists to exercise caution during low-visibility conditions and to avoid needless outdoor travel between 12pm and 4pm.
With the mercury approaching the psychological 50°C mark, municipalities and emergency services have increased inspections of construction sites and outdoor businesses to enforce midday work prohibitions and heat safety regulations.
As the high-pressure system continues, residents should stay hydrated, restrict their exposure to direct sunlight, and keep up with official weather reports. The heatwave is predicted to last into the weekend, with little relief expected in the near future.
