Air India Grounds 787 Flights Following Crash Sparks Safety Concerns

Air India has cancelled six Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flights in a single day, raising concerns about aircraft safety in the aftermath of the fatal Ahmedabad tragedy. The cancellations affect both international and domestic flights, with authorities claiming the necessity for rapid technical inspections across the fleet.

One of the affected flights, San Francisco to Mumbai, discovered a technical issue during a scheduled stop in Kolkata, requiring engineers to ground the plane and conduct a comprehensive inspection. The airline emphasised that these measures are preventive, motivated by a dedication to passenger safety.

The crash in Ahmedabad, which claimed hundreds of lives, has prompted a wider audit of Boeing 787 aircraft by Indian aviation authorities. A high-level probe committee is investigating whether recurring issues in the aircraft’s systems contributed to the tragedy.

Passengers affected by the sudden cancellations are being accommodated on alternate flights, while Air India collaborates with Boeing and regulatory bodies to ensure the continued airworthiness of its Dreamliner fleet. The cancellations signal a serious tone from the airline industry as it prioritizes caution over convenience in a moment of national mourning and global scrutiny.
