It is a historic time for the Philippines’ higher education sector that six Philippine colleges have secured coveted positions in the 2026 QS World University Rankings. The University of the Philippines (UP) System is in the forefront, having risen to 362nd place in the world, which is evidence of its impact on research and academic quality.

The yearly QS rankings assess universities around the world according to criteria such as research output, internationalisation, faculty-student ratio, employer perception, and academic reputation. Growing regional competition and the advancements local universities are making in terms of global education standards are reflected in the inclusion of several Philippine institutions in this year’s list.

In addition to UP, five additional colleges received recognition for their strategic advancements and intellectual prowess. Although the complete rankings of these universities are not yet available to the public, sources suggest that their inclusion was largely due to their excellent records in research collaboration and international faculty engagement.

Education officials in the Philippines have praised this accomplishment, calling it a turning point for the academic community in the nation. The Philippines is progressively establishing itself as a centre for academic achievement in South-east Asia through increased investment in higher education and international collaborations.
