As a result of flight rerouting due to the Middle East conflict, 31 Filipinos have returned home

In the face of escalating regional tensions and flight problems brought on by Qatar’s airspace restrictions, the Philippine government has successfully evacuated 31 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from the Middle East. This is the initial phase of a larger evacuation strategy in case the situation worsens, according to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

The returning Filipinos were flown in from other Gulf states after diplomatic channels made it safe for them to go via other routes, according to OWWA Administrator Arnell Ignacio. The temporary shutdown of Qatari airspace, which was brought on by missile strikes and the growing tension between Iran and Israel, caused the return to be delayed.

Ignacio praised the swift coordination between Philippine embassies, labor attachés, and regional authorities to ensure the safety of nationals. The returnees, who mostly worked in hospitality and healthcare sectors, were provided with assistance packages, accommodation, and psychosocial support upon arrival.

Officials reiterated that the Philippine government remains on high alert and is ready to conduct additional repatriation missions. Filipinos in affected countries are advised to stay in touch with embassy hotlines and monitor updates from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and OWWA.
