A new 435-meter lane has been added to Al Khail Road at the entrance to Business Bay as part of a significant road expansion project by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). This upgrade enhances traffic flow into Business Bay, boosting road capacity and improving commuter safety .
The wider carriageway connects directly to Al Khail Road, a key artery leading toward Abu Dhabi, and complements a similar widening at Al Jaddaf that added 600 metres and increased capacity by about 2,000 vehicles per hour—reducing congestion by an estimated 25%.
Beyond lane expansion, the RTA’s multi-phase traffic solution across Dubai included enhancements at 50+ locations in 2024—delivering up to 60% reduced travel times in targeted zones such as school areas, major intersections, and Business Bay exits.
For residents and commuters, these upgrades mean smoother, safer journeys into and through Business Bay—long plagued by severe bottlenecks. One local on Reddit described the pre-upgrade situation:
“I stay in BaySquare… during peak times, the traffic is insane… it takes her 25‑35 minutes for those 2 kms”
By expanding capacity, easing entry/exit points, and integrating public transit enhancements like Bus‑on‑Demand, the RTA aims to cut excessive waits and improve daily commutes in one of Dubai’s busiest place.
