Amid an ongoing security review, Iran extends the closure of its airspace till Thursday

Iran will maintain airspace closures for domestic and international flights until Thursday at 2 p.m. local time, according to Majid Akhavan, spokesperson for the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development. This extension, issued via Notice to Airmen No. 19 (NOTAM), is intended to safeguard passenger and aviation safety amid evolving regional security conditions.

Beginning June 13, Iran had imposed a full closure on its entire airspace after Israeli airstrikes targeted Tehran and other locations during the Iran–Israel 12-day conflict. Following a ceasefire agreement on Tuesday, Iran reopened its eastern airspace, resuming certain flights. However, the northern, southern, and western airspace—covering key routes—will remain sealed through tomorrow.

Authorities have advised passengers not to travel to airports and to rely on official channels for flight information. The extended suspension will stay in place “until the situation returns to normal,” with a formal reopening announcement to follow once conditions are deemed secure.

While partial resumption in the east offers a glimmer of recovery, airlines are expected to continue rerouting flights around Iranian airspace due to persistent regional tensions. The cautious stance by carriers underscores ongoing security concerns and the complex nature of restoring full air connectivity
