Flash Floods in Pakistan: Dozens are swept away, including 16 from one family

Tragic events occurred in northern Pakistan when unexpected flash floods killed hundreds of people, including 16 members of one family, in a terrible tragedy close to a well-known tourist destination. Rescue crews report that many of the fatalities had little time to flee as rapidly increasing waters rushed through the valley while they were having a picnic by the river.

The event happened after several days of intense rains that overflowed rivers and streams, causing flash floods in several areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Because many tourists had set up near the banks without realising the increasing danger upstream, they were especially at risk when exploring the scenic areas.

Authorities are working around the clock to retrieve bodies and rescue any survivors. Helicopters and trained rescue personnel have been deployed, while the military assists with relief operations in affected areas. Officials warn more rain is expected and have urged the public to avoid riverside spots.

This latest disaster underscores the growing threat of climate-induced weather events in Pakistan, a country increasingly vulnerable to monsoon-related catastrophes.
