Iran refutes Trump’s assertion that nuclear negotiations will soon resume

Iran has vehemently disagreed with former US President Donald Trump’s recent claim that Tehran and Washington will begin nuclear talks again next week. The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s statement was released just hours after Trump alluded to a possible accord and perhaps a breakthrough.

During a televised speech, Trump hinted at increased diplomatic momentum by saying the two nations “may” meet for talks next week. However, given the impending U.S. elections, Iranian officials rejected the assertion as “baseless” and politically motivated.

Tehran reaffirmed that no official correspondence or planned meetings have been held with the United States and that any future discussions would necessitate a change in Washington’s policy, specifically with regard to sanctions and regional meddling.

The decision raises questions about any quick return to the negotiating table and highlights the profound mistrust that has persisted between the two countries since the 2015 nuclear deal’s breakdown.
