To mark 50 years of diplomatic relations between the UAE and Canada, the Canadian mission in the UAE is organizing a treasure hunt across the Emirates. Open to residents, this exciting event offers prizes such as flight tickets, hotel stays, 11-course meals, and passes to performances.

Canadian Ambassador to the UAE, Radha Krishna Panday, explained that the treasure hunt is meant to introduce participants to Canadian culture while celebrating the long-standing relationship between the two nations. “Canadians have been in the UAE well before the formation of the federation,” Mr. Panday said. “This treasure hunt is a way to showcase Canada’s contribution to the success of the UAE in a fun way. And the basic message is that even though you don’t know it, almost everywhere you look in the UAE, you can see a piece of Canada.”

Limited to just 150 participants, the event is free and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Those interested will need to download an app, register, and complete 50 challenges during November. These challenges range from taking selfies at monuments with Canadian connections, attending a hockey game, to spotting a beaver and a moose in the UAE. More information about the treasure hunt will be available on the Canadian mission’s social media platforms.

UAE Monuments with a Canadian Connection

Canadian architects and firms have played key roles in designing some of the UAE’s most iconic landmarks. “For example, the Etihad Museum in Dubai was designed by a Toronto-based architectural firm,” Mr. Panday said, noting its innovative design. Additionally, the iconic Etisalat buildings in Abu Dhabi and Dubai were the work of a Canadian architect.

Even the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower, has a Canadian touch. “A Canadian firm served as the architect of record during the construction of the Burj Khalifa, supervising the architecture and leading design coordination,” he added.

Diplomatic relations between the UAE and Canada officially began in 1974, just three years after the UAE’s formation. Since then, trade investments and bilateral ties have flourished between the two countries.
