In the race to introduce air taxis, Vertical Aerospace soars with $8 billion in orders

As it prepares to introduce its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) air taxis, Vertical Aerospace is gaining significant ground in the global air mobility race, garnering orders totalling up to $8 billion. The UK-based aviation innovator has already landed commitments for 350 units from major global carriers, including American Airlines, Japan Airlines (JAL), and AirAsia, marking a major leap forward for the future of urban air travel.

These collaborations are a component of Vertical’s overarching plan to bring urban aerial mobility to fruition by the end of the decade. The company’s flagship aircraft, the VX4, is a zero-emissions, four-passenger vehicle designed to cover short city-to-city routes with near-silent.

The deals come amid heightened interest in sustainable aviation, with airlines investing in next-gen aircraft to meet future emission targets. Strong investor support and technological alliances with aerospace behemoths like Rolls-Royce and Honeywell are also driving Vertical’s development. The company is currently conducting extensive flight tests as it targets commercial certification by 2026.

If successful, Vertical Aerospace could become a leading player in transforming how the world commutes. With air taxis inching closer to take-off, cityscapes and travel habits may soon be redefined by sleek, sky-bound alternatives.
