Sharjah has added vehicle impoundment fees to its ongoing traffic fine relief programme, giving drivers a 35% reduction on fines and associated release fees if they pay within 60 days of the infraction. This initiative, approved by the Sharjah Executive Council, aims to encourage timely settlement of penalties and prevent the accumulation of outstanding dues.

The policy applies to a broad range of minor violations, excluding serious offences such as endangering lives, excessive speeding, or unlicensed vehicle modifications. Fines settled after 60 days but within one year qualify for a 25 % discount on the fine amount.

Since its initial launch in April 2023, the programme has been established as a permanent policy, offering steady assistance irrespective of holidays or special occasions. Major-General Saif Al Ziri Al Shamsi, the Sharjah Police Commander, stated that the objective is to promote compliance and make fine payments easier.

Redditors note that the MOI and EVG applications immediately display the discounted amount. A commenter pointed out that the programme has been in place since 2023, taking the place of Reddit.com’s one-time holiday deals. Users warn, nonetheless, that the reduction does not apply to fines imposed by the municipality or for parking.
