Dubai has marked a major academic milestone with the graduation of its first PhD students in biomedical sciences from the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU). These trailblazing researchers are already making headlines for their contributions in the battle against drug-resistant breast cancer and MRSA superbugs.

The PhD graduates have conducted groundbreaking research that could pave the way for innovative treatments in oncology and infectious disease management. One graduate focused on identifying novel drug targets for triple-negative breast cancer, an aggressive form of the disease often resistant to current therapies. Another tackled methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)—a notorious hospital superbug—developing promising pathways to overcome antibiotic resistance.

Their accomplishments demonstrate not only their individual academic prowess but also the return on Dubai’s investment in top-notch medical education and research. These graduates, according to MBRU authorities, constitute a “new generation of scientist-leaders” who will revolutionise healthcare in the area.

The university’s biomedical PhD program, aligned with Dubai’s Vision 2030, aims to foster homegrown talent that can contribute to global science. With these first doctoral researchers already delivering impactful results, the program is positioned as a catalyst for life-saving innovations born in the UAE.
