By 2040, Dubai Metro Blue Line will have 14 stations and serve one million people

Dubai has formally set the groundwork for its planned Metro Blue Line, a 30-kilometer transit system that will connect nine thriving neighbourhoods and serve an estimated one million citizens by 2040. With 14 stations, including five underground and nine elevated, the line will seamlessly link major hubs—from Dubai Creek Harbour and Festival City to Academic City and Dubai Silicon.

This expansion supports Dubai’s 20-minute city vision and aligns with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and Economic Agenda D33. The project has significant benefits beyond mobility; by 2040, authorities anticipate AED 56.5 billion in economic, social, and environmental improvements, as well as a considerable 25% boost in local real estate values.

The iconic, seashell-designed Emaar Properties Station at Dubai Creek Harbour will stand 74 m tall—likely the world’s tallest metro station . Set to debut on September 9, 2029 (marking the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro), this “fifth corridor” will expand the network to 131 km and 78 stations, with a fleet of 168 trains. Early projections estimate 200,000 daily riders by 2030, rising to 320,000 by 2040, at peak capacity of 46,000 passengers per hour per direction.
