Emirates Introduces Upgraded 777s in Premium Economy on the Maldives and Sri Lanka

Emirates has formally introduced its recently modified Boeing 777s, which now have Premium Economy seats, on its main Indian Ocean routes to Colombo, Sri Lanka, and Malé, the Maldives. The interiors of EK 656/657 and EK 660/661 have been updated since the upgrade started on June 1. By July 18, an additional Sri Lanka flight (EK 650/651) will be updated to complement the current A350 service.

Emirates’ extensive cabin renovation project includes these updated 777 aircraft, which have four-class interiors: First Class suites, 1‑2‑1 lie-flat Business Class seats, 24-seat Premium Economy in a 2‑4‑2 arrangement, and a revamped Economy section.

By extending Premium Economy to more than 40 locations, this calculated move furthers Emirates’ goal of providing reliable, first-rate travel experiences throughout its network. Sri Lankan passengers may now take advantage of the updated cabins on both Boeing 777 and A350 aircraft, while passengers heading to the Maldives can now enjoy improved comfort on three daily flights.

By September 2025, Emirates intends to update around 220 Boeing 777 and A380 aircraft across 44 cities as part of a larger US $5 billion refit programme. Harmonised cabin offers and a significant rise in Premium Economy capacity—which is currently exceeding 2 million seats yearly throughout the worldwide fleet—are guaranteed by this extensive renovation.
