The United Arab Emirates has assumed the Presidency of the Arab Parliament following a procedural session of the fourth legislative term held today, Saturday, at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, Egypt. Mohammed Ahmad Al Yamahi, a member of the Federal National Council (FNC), has been elected as the President of the Parliament.

The UAE, through the FNC Parliamentary Division, previously held the presidency of the Arab Parliament for two consecutive terms from 2012 to 2016, reflecting the significant role of Emirati parliamentary diplomacy and its contributions to the Arab Parliament’s activities since its establishment.

In a statement, Al Yamahi expressed his appreciation for the substantial support provided by the UAE’s wise leadership, which includes President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court. He stated that they have empowered Emiratis to secure decision-making roles within Arab, regional, and international organizations. He highlighted that this achievement adds to the UAE’s impressive record accomplished under the guidance of its leadership.

At the level of the FNC Parliamentary Division, the UAE was elected as Deputy President of the Arab Parliament in 2020. Additionally, members of the FNC Parliamentary Division have chaired the Committees on Financial and Economic Affairs and the Committee on Social, Educational, Cultural, Women, and Youth Affairs
