The Famous Viral ‘Banana Art’ is Finally Coming to Dubai

Dubai is set to showcase one of the art world’s most talked-about pieces: Comedian by Maurizio Cattelan.

On Monday, November 4, visitors at Sotheby’s DIFC can view this iconic artwork, a banana duct-taped to a wall, for a rare, one-day showing. Comedian first shocked audiences at Art Basel Miami Beach in 2019, sparking worldwide debates on the meaning of “art.”

Since its debut, Comedian has drawn massive crowds and intense reactions, raising questions from both critics and the public. The piece’s Dubai display is part of its global tour before it heads to auction in New York, where it’s expected to fetch around Dhs5.5 million. With its potential sale to a private collector, this could be the only chance for Dubai residents and visitors to see the work up close.

With a memorable exhibition history, including a performance where an edition was eaten, Comedian continues to redefine modern art. Whether fans or skeptics, Dubai’s art lovers now have the unique opportunity to witness this global sensation in person.
