19 Illegal Bird-Hunting Devices Seized by UAE Authorities

The Fujairah Environment Authority announced on Saturday that it confiscated 19 illegal bird-hunting devices during a recent operation aimed at protecting local wildlife.

The authority received a report from a visitor in the area who heard strange sounds linked to hunting equipment. The visitor then contacted the Fujairah Environment Authority using its 24-hour emergency hotline (800368), which is set up to handle urgent environmental issues.

Upon receiving the report, the Biodiversity Team acted quickly, conducting a thorough survey of the area and nearby locations. This led to finding 19 devices hidden by unknown individuals in discreet spots, used to attract and hunt birds for personal gain.

To continue protecting Fujairah’s biodiversity, the environment authority runs an annual monitoring campaign led by its Biodiversity and Environmental Monitoring and Compliance Team. These campaigns help the authority identify and prevent violations that threaten the region’s natural resources.

Asila Al Mualla, the director of the Fujairah Environment Authority, stressed the authority’s commitment to protecting the environment. She mentioned that the authority is working with local security forces to impose strict penalties on offenders, stating that there will be no leniency for those who threaten the emirate’s ecological balance.
