In UAE, it is risky to share personal grievances on social media. A woman in Dubai, Maram, is facing legal consequences. She has posted a heated message about her ex-husband Louay in their child’s school WhatsApp group.

The Dubai Public Prosecution has issued a strong warning against using social media to insult, defame, or express frustrations. Such use of WhatsApp is considered a criminal offense. It can lead to serious penalties under UAE law.

The incident started when Maram found out that Louay had joined the WhatsApp group. The group belonged to the school of their son Marwan. It included other parents and teachers as well. Maram was frustrated by Louay’s lack of financial support for their nine-year-old son.

She shared a message about their divorce proceedings and financial disagreements. This message revealed private details of their relationship to the entire group. The heated messages made her grievances public.

This situation highlights the UAE’s strict cybercrime laws. It forbids the use of social media to insult or defame others. Authorities in Dubai are becoming increasingly vigilant in monitoring online behavior. The messages are specially checked when social media is misused to damage reputations.

Even, disclosing private information is also not allowed. Offenses can lead to significant fines and imprisonment. The amount of the fine depends on the severity of the violation. Legal experts in the UAE have noted a rise in similar cases as digital communication becomes more common.

The Dubai Public Prosecution has urged residents to resolve disputes through legal means. They also advised to prevent risking personal and legal repercussions by venting online. Such preventive measures help in preventing cyber crimes.
