The UAE has been elected to the Board of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) for the 2025-2027 term. It has become the first Arab nation to achieve this honor. The election occurred during the IEC General Assembly in Edinburgh, United Kingdom.

The UAE delegation received unanimous support from the IEC’s National Committee Members. Farah Al Zarooni is the Assistant Under-Secretary for the Standards and Regulations Sector at the UAE’s Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT). It will serve as the nation’s representative on the board.

The IEC is responsible for establishing and maintaining global standards in electrical and electronic technologies. It offers a platform for over 30,000 experts worldwide. This new role enables the UAE to influence and contribute to standardization efforts across various industries.

These industries include energy, technology, healthcare, and manufacturing. By joining the IEC Board, the UAE promotes safety, growth, and success in these sectors. It fulfills the nation’s ambition to become a global leader in technology and industry standards.

This achievement is part of the UAE’s broader strategy to enhance its presence in international organizations. The UAE advocates for standards that promote sustainable development and technological progress. This milestone fulfills the country’s industrial and economic objectives.

The UAE’s membership on the IEC board has taken a crucial step in ending the standards gap between the Arab world and the global community. It encourages greater regional participation in international policy and standardization dialogues.

This milestone also aligns with the UAE’s Vision 2030 goals. This success will elevate the standard of UAE and national industries. It highlights the UAE’s proactive approach to development. This approach also builds strong global partnerships for the UAE that support progress.
