Booksellers Go ‘Glocal’ to Connect Cultures: Sharjah Publishers Conference Explores Future of Publishing

The 14th Sharjah Publishers Conference opened its doors on Sunday at the Expo Centre Sharjah. They showed an innovative “Glocal” approach in publishing. Global trends were studied through cross-cultural connections. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi was the Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA).

She inaugurated the conference. This event highlights Sharjah’s commitment to creating a global publishing community. She said, “The Sharjah Publishers Conference reflects the creation of a publishing society that brings cultures together.

This year’s event was organized by the SBA in partnership with the International Publishers Association. This event of the Sharjah International Book Fair is starting from Wednesday. There will be 1,065 publishers, 74 speakers, and industry professionals from 108 countries.

The conference serves as a central hub for discussions on global publishing trends. It will be very beneficial for those aiming to train the younger generation for future success.

‘Glocal’ Publishing Trends: A New Path to Global Relevance

The term “Glocal,” is introduced by Chantal Restivo-Alessi. He is the Chief Digital Officer at HarperCollins Publishers. He is becoming a vital strategy for making globally popular genres relatable on a local scale. The conference will help in creating unique genres on a global level.

“The trend focuses on creating published content relating to various cultures. It is essential for engaging younger readers who may not see reading as their main source of entertainment,” Restivo-Alessi explained. Her session highlighted the potential of digital accessibility in reaching wider audiences.
