Tom Cruise is reportedly preparing to return to the fast lane with a sequel to Days of Thunder. It follows the success of Top Gun: Maverick. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cruise is in talks with Paramount Studios. He aims to reprise his role, potentially bringing him back into the thrilling world of NASCAR.

Originally directed by Tony Scott, Days of Thunder featured Cruise as Cole Trickle, a young racer determined to make his mark in the competitive racing scene. The film didn’t initially achieve blockbuster status. Cruise believes that there’s an opportunity for a revival. The success of Top Gun inspires it: Maverick. The latest film transformed a 1986 classic into a worldwide sensation.

A source at Paramount revealed, “Cruise is collaborating closely with the studio on both Top Gun and Days of Thunder projects. The order of release will depend on the quality of the scripts.” The source added, “Some were skeptical about revisiting Top Gun, but look at its success. There’s every reason to think Days of Thunder could resonate with audiences.”

In addition to this potential sequel, Cruise’s schedule is filled with exciting projects. These projects include a space film with Doug Liman for Universal. It is a highly anticipated Top Gun sequel for Paramount. It is a new collaboration with renowned director Alejandro G. Iñárritu for Warner Bros./Legendary.

The original Days of Thunder is produced by the legendary duo Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. It featured a star-studded cast that included Nicole Kidman, Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid, and Michael Rooker. The film has real NASCAR icons like Richard Petty and Rusty Wallace making cameo appearances. The film has developed a loyal fanbase over the years, despite receiving mixed reviews from critics.

As the studio hones its plans, fans of the original film are eagerly awaiting news.
