King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain found themselves facing a fierce protest on November 3, 2024. It happened during their visit to Paiporta. The royals intended to show support for the affected residents. They met with mud and shouts of “murderers!” from an angry crowd. It resulted in a quick departure for the officials present.

The visit was meant to express solidarity with a community. The area has endured significant suffering due to devastating floods. The floods have taken over 200 lives nationwide. Amid rising frustration, locals directed their anger mainly at Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and the head of the Valencia region. Both of them were swiftly taken away by security as tensions rose.

King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia tried to connect with the residents and ease the situation. They, unfortunately, found themselves caught in the protest. The mud splattered on their faces and clothing. Footage of the incident was aired on Spanish television. The citizens were deeply disturbed due to the country’s most catastrophic flooding event in decades.

The growing unrest among the populace has been fueled by dissatisfaction with the government’s response to the crisis. Many residents voiced feelings of abandonment. Search and rescue efforts for missing persons continued to decline five days after the floods hit. The government has faced backlash for its perceived failure to address the immediate needs of those affected. The event has led to emotional outbursts from grieving families and frustrated locals.
