Dubai Municipality is making changes to its sewerage fee structure as part of its ongoing efforts to improve service quality and efficiency. The new fees will be rolled out in phases over the next three years and will apply to current customers who pay sewerage fees in areas managed by the municipality. This marks the first fee increase in ten years.
The updated fees support the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which aims to meet the needs of the emirate’s growing population.
As Dubai experiences strong economic growth and a significant rise in residents, there is a constant need to develop infrastructure across all service sectors to accommodate both residents and visitors.
With projections indicating that Dubai’s population could reach around 7.8 million by 2040, the city aims to maintain its status as a leading global hub and a great place to live, work, and visit.
The new sewerage tariffs for residents and businesses will gradually increase over the next three years. Starting in 2025, the fee will be set at 1.5 fils per gallon, increasing to 2 fils per gallon in 2026, and reaching 2.8 fils per gallon in 2027. Despite the increase, the revised fees remain significantly lower than the global average, even in cities with similar GDP per capita.
The main goal of this fee increase is to encourage water conservation in Dubai. This initiative will help promote sustainable practices, preserve water resources, and create an urban infrastructure that is ready to meet the future needs of residents and visitors.
