Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has conducted an innovative crisis management drill in the Metaverse, marking a first for the region in utilizing digital twin technologies. This exercise, which took place on November 6, 2024, reflects RTA’s dedication to enhancing emergency response preparedness for the Dubai Metro system, employing the latest technological advancements to safeguard its passengers.
The drill simulated various emergency scenarios on the Dubai Metro within a virtual environment, allowing RTA’s crisis management team to react in real-time to different situations without interrupting actual metro services. The Metaverse setup was designed to mirror the physical layout of the Dubai Metro and was powered by state-of-the-art digital twin technology, which creates virtual models of physical assets and infrastructure for monitoring, analysis, and response.
By incorporating these technologies, RTA successfully carried out a thorough, risk-free exercise that evaluated the coordination and effectiveness of emergency response protocols in a virtual context.
