Have you ever gotten a traffic fine and thought it was unfair? Even though the UAE has a very efficient traffic management system, mistakes can happen due to equipment issues or human error, leading to wrongful fines. Authorities understand this can occur, and if you receive a traffic fine SMS that you believe is incorrect, you are encouraged to contest it.

This system shows the commitment of the authorities to correct any mistakes in the traffic penalty process.

Disputing traffic fines in the UAE is easy across all emirates. Here’s a simple guide on how to challenge a traffic fine in the country.

Contesting in Dubai

If you received a traffic fine from Dubai Police, you cannot contest it online. You must submit your complaint in person.

  • Go to the General Directorate of Traffic headquarters in Al Barsha to file your complaint.
  • Residents can also visit the nearest Dubai Police station to contest the fine.
  • Alternatively, you can call +971-4-606-3555 to raise a complaint, but you need to follow up with a written complaint.
  • For more information, you can call the Deira Traffic department at 04-606-3555 or the Barsha Traffic department at 04-311-1154.

There is a fee to open a dispute, but if you win, you’ll get a refund. If you lose, you must pay the fine along with the dispute fee.

  • You can also raise a complaint on the Dubai Prosecution website (www.dxbpp.gov.ae).

Conditions for Complaining on the Prosecution Website

  1. Fill in all required information in the application form.
  2. Attach a photocopy of the fine, Emirates ID, driver’s license, and vehicle license.
  3. The Traffic Prosecution will review your application, and you’ll receive either a rejection or acceptance. If accepted, you’ll need to attend Traffic Court.

Contesting in Abu Dhabi

For fines from the Abu Dhabi traffic department, you can raise an objection through the Abu Dhabi Police website – https://cas.adpolice.gov.ae/.

  • Click on ‘Objection to a traffic violation.’
  • Fill in the form with required details like your name, mobile number, email, Emirates ID, fine number, and more.
  • Choose a preferred time for a callback from Abu Dhabi Police.
  • Explain why you are contesting the fine and attach any relevant images.
  • After filling out the form, click ‘Submit.’

If your complaint is valid, the fine may be canceled by Abu Dhabi Police, or they may contact you for more information.

Contesting in Sharjah

To dispute traffic fines in Sharjah, you can reach the Sharjah Police Traffic Department via WhatsApp at +971-6-517-7555.

  • You can also contest fines using the MOI smartphone app available for both Apple and Android.
  • Log into the app with your UAE Pass account.
  • Tap on Help and then complain, providing details on why you want to contest the fine and submit.

If your complaint is valid, the fine will be reversed.

Contesting in Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, and Umm Al Quwain

If you received a fine in Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, or Umm Al Quwain, you can contest it using the Ministry of Interior app, available on both Apple and Android.

  • Log in using your UAE Pass account.
  • Click on Help and then Complain.
  • Enter the violation details and explain why you want it reversed.

Based on the evidence you provide, the traffic department may approve or deny your appeal.

Contesting in Ajman

For disputes regarding traffic fines in Ajman, you can appeal through the Ajman Police website or app.

  • Use your UAE Pass account to log in.
  • Tap on Traffic Service and then select Objection to Traffic Penalty.
  • Fill in the details of the incident, including the ticket number and type of violation.
  • Next, explain your reason for the objection, attach relevant images, and submit.

Ajman Police will review your appeal, and if your case is accepted, the fine will be canceled.
