The UAE is famous for its superlatives, and if you’re visiting Dubai, you’ll encounter numerous attractions that are the tallest, largest, and highest in the world. If you only have a couple of days to explore and this is your first time in the city, make sure your itinerary includes the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, and the largest choreographed fountain system. Best of all, you can enjoy views of the Burj Khalifa and the fountain shows without spending a dime. Here’s what you need to know:
How Much Time Will I Need?
We suggest setting aside at least 6 hours, or even a full day (from midday to evening), to fully experience this destination. This time will allow you to enjoy the fountain shows, shopping, dining, visiting At The Top in Burj Khalifa, and, if you have time, the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo.
Is the Dubai Fountain Free?
The Dubai Fountain has reclaimed its title as the world’s largest choreographed fountain since the Palm Fountain closed. The water and light shows, which occur every half hour, are beautifully synchronized to music, and with the shimmering lights of the Burj and the LED displays, it’s a stunning experience. And yes, the shows are completely free to watch. The first show starts at 6pm and the last one is at 11pm, with performances every 30 minutes.
The Best Viewing Spots
The best viewing area is a bridge that connects the mall area to Souk Al Bahar, which is beautifully lit and provides an excellent backdrop for capturing that perfect photo with the full length of the Burj Khalifa. Our tip: use the Panoramic mode on your phone camera and hold your phone vertically to capture the entire scene.
Additional Activities
Shopping and Dining: Dubai Mall, situated at the base of the Burj Khalifa, boasts a wide array of shopping and dining options. From high-end brands to casual dining spots, there’s something to suit every taste.
At The Top – Burj Khalifa: Don’t miss the chance to visit the observation deck of the Burj Khalifa, known as “At The Top.” Here, you can take in breathtaking views of the city from the world’s tallest building. Be sure to book your tickets in advance to skip the long lines.
Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo: Situated within the Dubai Mall, this attraction is ideal for families. Discover the wonders of the ocean and get an up-close look at a diverse range of marine life.
Evening Strolls: After enjoying the fountain show, take a relaxing walk around Burj Khalifa Lake. The peaceful surroundings and the illuminated Burj Khalifa create a magical ambiance that’s perfect for a laid-back evening.
Insider Tips
Timing: Arrive early to grab the best viewing spot for the fountain shows, as the area can become quite crowded, especially during peak times.
Photography: For the most stunning photos, visit during the golden hour (just before sunset) when the lighting is ideal for capturing breathtaking images of the Burj Khalifa and the fountains.
Stay Hydrated: Dubai can be quite hot, so make sure to drink plenty of water and take breaks in air-conditioned spaces to stay cool.
Experiencing the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Fountains show is something every visitor to Dubai should prioritize on their first trip. Whether you’re admiring the architectural marvel of the Burj Khalifa or being captivated by the enchanting fountain displays, this iconic location provides a memorable experience that highlights the grandeur and beauty of Dubai.
