The publication takes readers through the Bronze Age tombs, pre-Islamic forts, and fascinating artifacts that showcase the civilizations that once flourished in this arid landscape. It offers a glimpse into the evolution of Mleiha, from early human settlements to a thriving trade and innovation hub.

“We are excited to introduce this book at the Sharjah International Book Fair. Mleiha is not only significant archaeologically but also offers stunning landscapes and rich biodiversity,” said Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, CEO of Shurooq, during the launch.

The book is a collaborative effort between the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and Assouline Publishing. It aims to serve as an authoritative reference on one of the UAE’s most important archaeological sites.

A Year of Research and Discovery

The creation of the book took nearly a year of research and photography. Al Qaseer emphasized, “Capturing the essence of Mleiha and its archaeological findings was a long process, and this book offers a detailed look at the region’s rich past.”

The book’s content is centered around the archaeological discoveries made in Mleiha, with a focus on findings from 200,000 years ago, showcasing the long-standing human presence in the area. Al Qaseer explained, “From Bronze Age tombs to pre-Islamic artifacts, the book brings Mleiha’s fascinating history to life.”

Preserving Heritage for Future Generations

Al Qaseer also highlighted the book’s educational value, especially for younger generations. He stated, “This publication is key to educating the youth about our heritage, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Mleiha’s cultural significance.”

Looking forward, Al Qaseer expressed hope for future collaborations to explore and document other important historical sites in Sharjah and across the UAE. “Sharjah is home to many notable sites, and we plan to ensure their stories are preserved for future generations,” he added.

The book serves not only as an educational resource but also as a valuable guide for tourists and history lovers. “By blending archaeology, nature, and biodiversity, the book makes Mleiha’s history accessible to a wide audience, enhancing its status as a cultural and eco-tourism destination,” said Al Qaseer.

Available Now for Global Readers

Mleiha: Ancient Treasures of the UAE is now available to readers, researchers, and cultural institutions both regionally and globally. The book aims to increase awareness of Mleiha’s archaeological importance and its vital role in the cultural landscape of the UAE.
