In a bid to enhance the city’s aesthetics and promote green spaces, Dubai Municipality has successfully completed a significant Dh245 million beautification project along two of the busiest roads in the city: Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. This initiative involved the planting of 2.5 million flowers and plant seedlings, along with 6,500 trees, across seven newly finished beautification projects, reinforcing Dubai’s commitment to becoming a greener and more sustainable city.
The extensive landscaping project covers over 1.4 million square meters and has transformed key intersections and roadsides along these crucial highways. The designs incorporate water-efficient irrigation systems, ensuring that the landscaping remains sustainable and environmentally friendly. These green initiatives are part of a larger vision to create a cleaner, healthier, and more visually appealing urban environment.
Green Dubai Project: Expanding Green Spaces
The beautification of Sheikh Zayed and Al Khail Roads is in line with Dubai’s broader sustainability initiative, the ‘Green Dubai Project’. This project aims to expand the city’s green spaces, leading to a higher per capita green area and improving the overall environmental quality of Dubai. According to Dawoud Al Hajri, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, these projects showcase the city’s commitment to transforming urban areas into green zones that promote a healthier environment for both residents and visitors.

The selection of flowers and plants for the project includes a variety of species that not only enhance the visual appeal of Dubai’s highways but also support the city’s biodiversity.
