Saudi Arabia: The Gulf’s Surprising Snow Hub with Frequent Snowfalls

While Saudi Arabia is often known for its desert landscapes and intense summer heat, it surprisingly ranks as the most snow-prone country in the Gulf region, according to Arabia Weather. Areas such as Al Jouf, the Northern Borders, and Tabuk see regular snowfall during the winter months, distinguishing Saudi Arabia from its Gulf neighbors.

At times, cold polar air masses can drop temperatures to freezing or lower, resulting in snowfall in northern regions like Hail and transforming the scenery into a winter wonderland that resembles the Levant. This phenomenon has even affected the UAE’s Jebel Jais, where an unusual weather system once covered the peaks in heavy snow, creating rare and stunning visuals in the usually warm Gulf area.

As winter draws near, Arabia Weather has predicted the likelihood of more snow events this year, further solidifying Saudi Arabia’s status as an unexpected winter destination in the Gulf. The snowfall in these regions attracts visitors and photographers eager to capture the unique image of snow-covered deserts.
