Kuwaiti Nurse Gets 5-Year Jail Term for Decade-Long Salary Fraud

In a landmark decision highlighting Kuwait’s intensified efforts against corruption, a Kuwaiti nurse has been sentenced to five years in prison with hard labor for fraudulently collecting salaries for a decade without actually working. The Criminal Court issued the ruling on Sunday, emphasizing the government’s resolve to eliminate the misappropriation of public funds and enforce strict accountability in the public sector.

Alongside the prison term, the court mandated the nurse to repay 110,000 Kuwaiti dinars (around Dh1.31 million)—twice the amount she wrongfully received during her scheme. This case has brought to light significant issues within the public sector, prompting renewed scrutiny of fraudulent employment practices and calls for enhanced oversight mechanisms.

The court’s decision sends a strong message aimed at deterring similar misconduct and reinforces Kuwait’s commitment to transparency and integrity within its public workforce. Authorities have vowed to persist in their fight against corruption, implementing compliance checks, and ensuring accountability throughout public service sectors.
