US Authorities Investigate 1.4 Million Honda Vehicles Over Engine Issues

US authorities announced on Monday that they are investigating 1.4 million Honda vehicles after reports of serious engine problems. The investigation follows Honda’s recall in November 2023 of 249,000 cars in the US with a 3.5-liter V6 engine.

The recall was issued due to a manufacturing defect in the engine crankshaft, which could cause the connecting rod bearing to wear out prematurely and seize, resulting in engine failure.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has received 173 reports of engine issues from various Honda and Acura models from the 2016-2020 years.

NHTSA’s probe aims to assess the extent of the issue and determine if other vehicles, not included in the 2023 recall, should be covered.
