Afghan cricket legend Mohammad Nabi has shared that he plans to retire from ODI cricket after the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. Nabi revealed his retirement decision following Afghanistan’s thrilling ODI series win over Bangladesh in Sharjah, where he was named Player of the Series for his all-round performance.

Reflecting on his journey, the 39-year-old, who has been a cornerstone in Afghanistan’s cricket rise, expressed excitement for his final appearance in the 50-over format. “After the Champions Trophy, I will say goodbye to ODIs,” Nabi said in an interview with the host broadcaster, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

Nabi has informed the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) about his decision but will continue to represent Afghanistan in T20Is. Since his international debut in 2009, Nabi has been part of Afghanistan’s incredible journey, leading the team to victories against over 30 countries, including Test-playing nations like Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Australia.

Despite being 39, Nabi remains an asset to the team, showcasing his skills in Afghanistan’s recent ODI series victory with 135 runs and two wickets. Across his ODI career, he has scored 3,600 runs in 167 matches with a strike rate of 86.99, and has also claimed 172 wickets with his off-spin.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will mark Afghanistan’s debut in the tournament and Nabi’s final ODI journey, a fitting farewell for one of Afghanistan cricket’s most impactful players.
