Dubai Police recently seized 1,780 bicycles and electric scooters during a traffic safety campaign, according to an announcement made on Monday.
The campaign, conducted in collaboration with Al Rifa’a Police Station, targeted violations in the Al Rifa’a area. It resulted in the confiscation of 1,417 bicycles and 363 electric scooters for improper usage and safety violations.
Reasons for Confiscation
The authority noted several violations, including:
- Using scooters and bicycles in non-designated areas, such as public roads and pedestrian pathways.
- Endangering the safety of riders and other road users.
In addition to the seizures, 251 fines were issued for infractions like:
- Not wearing helmets.
- Ignoring traffic signals.
- Lacking essential safety features such as reflective clothing or proper lights.
Important Safety Guidelines for Riders
Dubai Police also outlined key safety rules for riders to follow:
- Use designated bike lanes only.
- Avoid jogging and walking paths.
- Do not carry passengers on electric scooters.
- Do not overload bikes or scooters.
- Ensure vehicles have proper front and rear lights.
- Always wear helmets and reflective vests.
- Walk bicycles across pedestrian crossings.
- Maintain safe distances from vehicles and pedestrians.
- Avoid making unauthorized modifications to bikes or scooters.
- Never tow or be towed by a vehicle.
- Use rear and side lights, especially at night or in poor weather conditions.

Dubai Police urged residents to report unsafe behavior or practices through the ‘Police Eye’ service available on the Dubai Police app or by calling the ‘We Are All Police’ hotline at 901.
