Dubai is often associated with luxury and extravagance, but Hoor Al Khaja, Senior Vice President of International Operations at Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), aims to challenge that perception. During her talk at the Skift Global Forum in Dubai, she highlighted that many of the city’s most iconic experiences come at no cost, making it accessible for all visitors.

“This is one of the misconceptions people have about Dubai — that it’s expensive,” Al Khaja stated. “Most of the iconic things to do in this city are free.”

Free Iconic Experiences in Dubai
1. Dubai Mall & Burj Khalifa Views
While the Burj Khalifa is the city’s most recognized landmark, you don’t need a ticket to enjoy the best view. Head to Dubai Mall for a stunning view of the tower and catch the Dubai Fountain show, which occurs every 30 minutes throughout the day. It’s a breathtaking experience that won’t cost you anything.

2. Abra Rides in Old Dubai
For just 50 cents, you can take a traditional abra ride across Dubai Creek. This experience not only provides a glimpse into the city’s rich history but is also one of the most affordable and delightful ways to explore Old Dubai.

3. Strolling Through Al Seef
Al Seef, situated along Dubai Creek, presents a unique blend of heritage and modernity. Visitors can stroll through its charming streets, enjoying the old-world ambiance without spending a penny.

4. Beaches and Parks
Dubai features stunning free beaches like Kite Beach and JBR Beach, where you can unwind or partake in water activities. Additionally, parks such as Safa Park and Burj Park provide green spaces ideal for family outings or peaceful walks.

Accessibility for All
Al Khaja emphasized Dubai’s commitment to serving all types of travelers. “The idea that Dubai is only for the wealthy is a misconception we are actively addressing. There is genuinely something for everyone here,” she stated.

The city’s growing hospitality sector plays a key role in this inclusivity. As reported by Cavendish Maxwell, over 2,700 new hotel rooms were introduced in the first half of 2024, with an additional 10,100 anticipated by the end of 2025. This expansion ensures that there are accommodations available for every budget, making Dubai an attractive and varied travel destination.

The Magic of Dubai for Everyone
What makes Dubai special is its ability to cater to all tastes. From marveling at the tallest building in the world to enjoying traditional abra rides and wandering through lively streets, the city demonstrates that remarkable experiences can be affordable.

Start planning your trip today and explore Dubai’s iconic sights without overspending!
