Thai Cyanide Serial Killer Sentenced to Death

Thailand has been shaken by a chilling criminal case as Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn, a 36-year-old with a gambling addiction, received a death sentence on Wednesday for poisoning her friend with cyanide. This verdict is the first in a series of 14 murder trials that she faces.

Regarded as one of the most infamous serial killers in the country’s history, Sararat is accused of defrauding her victims out of significant amounts of money before taking their lives. She faces around 80 charges, including theft and fraud.

Gruesome Details of the Crimes
The court’s ruling is linked to the death of Siriporn Kanwong, who met Sararat last year near Bangkok for a Buddhist ceremony involving the release of fish into the Mae Klong River. Shortly after the ritual, Siriporn collapsed and died, with investigators later discovering cyanide in her system.

This case has unveiled a troubling pattern of unsolved murders associated with Sararat dating back to 2015. Authorities found that she had enticed 15 victims into consuming cyanide-laced “herb capsules.” Only one person managed to survive and share their experience.

A Mother’s Quest for Justice
“The court’s decision is just,” remarked Tongpin Kiatchanasiri, Siriporn’s mother, following the sentencing. “I want to tell my daughter that I miss her deeply, and justice has been served for her today.”

The Motive Behind the Killings
Police disclosed that Sararat’s actions were driven by her desperate need to support her gambling habit. She borrowed money from her victims—sometimes as much as 300,000 baht (nearly $9,000)—before murdering them to evade repayment. Along with the cash, she also stole their jewelry and mobile phones to further feed her addiction.

What’s Next for Sararat?
Although Sararat has received a death sentence in her initial trial, she still has 13 more murder trials ahead, along with a host of other charges. This disturbing case continues to draw public interest, revealing the shocking levels of deceit and violence exhibited by the convicted murderer.

A Nation Grapples with Horror
The case has sent ripples of fear throughout Thailand, leading to demands for tougher regulations against financial fraud and improved protections to avert such atrocious acts. As the legal process progresses, the families of the victims are seeking justice in every trial, determined to ensure that no crime remains unpunished.

Stay tuned for updates as Thailand’s courts work through one of the darkest chapters in its criminal history.
