Abu Dhabi’s Light and Peace Museum Set to Open at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, officially opened the Light and Peace Museum at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre in Abu Dhabi.

During the inauguration, Sheikh Mansour, along with senior officials, toured the museum’s sections. He explored its exhibits and activities, which highlight the rich history of Islamic civilization, its contributions to arts and sciences, and its core values of tolerance and coexistence.

Interactive Displays and Rare Collections

The museum features five sections designed to offer interactive experiences. Using advanced technology and multimedia, the museum presents rare artifacts and engaging narratives that invite visitors to explore its cultural content. This immersive approach opens doors to meaningful cultural dialogue between civilizations.

Among the highlights is the Immersive Light Experience, housed in the “Dome of Peace.” This multimedia exhibit reflects the mosque’s broader mission of promoting cultural and civilizational dialogue. The dome also includes other cultural facilities, making it a hub of knowledge and creativity.

A Vision for Peace and Understanding

Sheikh Mansour highlighted that the museum aligns with the UAE’s goal of fostering peace, culture, and coexistence. He remarked:

“This museum serves as a window for the world to explore the cultural richness of Islamic civilization. It enhances the UAE’s efforts in promoting shared human values through heritage, art, and literature, creating platforms for dialogue and understanding.”

Unique Exhibits

The Light and Peace Museum showcases a carefully curated collection of artifacts from different Islamic eras, including:

  • A part of the Kiswa (covering) of the Holy Kaaba (20th century)
  • The first Islamic gold coin
  • Gold-illuminated pages of the Blue Qur’an (9th–10th centuries CE)
  • The Andalusian astrolabe (14th century CE)
  • Personal items from the collection of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan

The museum also features stunning artworks, manuscripts, calligraphy, and decorative pieces made of metal, wood, marble, and textiles. These exhibits celebrate the creativity and ingenuity of Islamic art and culture.

Family-Friendly and Inclusive

In addition to its main sections, the museum includes spaces designed for families and children, offering educational and interactive activities that appeal to visitors of all ages.

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre plans to announce the museum’s official opening to the public soon. Visitors from all cultures will have the opportunity to enjoy a unique experience that combines heritage, art, and innovation, furthering the mosque’s mission of spreading cultural understanding.
