If your flight in India is delayed, you can now look forward to more than just an apology. The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has introduced new regulations that require airlines to offer free water, snacks, and even meals, depending on how long the delay lasts.

These rules, released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday, are designed to tackle passenger complaints and enhance travel experience during unexpected disruptions.

Key Provisions:
Delays under 2 hours: Airlines must provide passengers with drinking water.
Delays between 2 and 4 hours: Passengers are entitled to tea, coffee, and light snacks.
Delays exceeding 4 hours: Airlines must serve full meals to passengers.
Focus on Passenger Welfare
“This initiative ensures that passengers’ basic needs are met during long waiting times, demonstrating MoCA’s commitment to improving air travel experiences,” the Ministry stated on X.com (formerly Twitter).

Strengthening Accountability
The new regulations have received widespread praise for putting passenger welfare first while encouraging airlines to manage delays more responsibly. Travelers can now anticipate a more considerate approach to delays, ensuring their comfort is a top priority.
