President of Indonesia Arrives in UAE for High-Level State Visit

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Abu Dhabi on Saturday morning for an important state visit.

His plane was escorted by UAE military jets as it entered the country’s airspace, showing the warm reception awaiting him. Upon landing, President Subianto was welcomed by Suhail Al Mazrouei, UAE’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure.

The relationship between the UAE and Indonesia has a strong foundation. Two years ago, both countries signed a significant trade agreement aimed at boosting bilateral trade to $10 billion within five years.

Since then, trade between the nations has grown steadily, with Indonesia, South-East Asia’s largest economy, reporting trade volumes with the UAE reaching $4 billion—a big increase compared to a decade ago.

The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, UAE’s Founding Father, visited Indonesia in 1990. His visit was a milestone in strengthening the relationship between the two nations.

In 2023, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, led the UAE-Indonesia Joint Committee in Abu Dhabi. He highlighted their collaboration in critical areas, including renewable energy, tourism, aviation, agriculture, food security, infrastructure, healthcare, artificial intelligence, education, and cultural exchange.

Earlier this year, Indonesia’s former President Joko Widodo also visited the UAE. During his visit, he was honored with the Order of Zayed for his contributions to strengthening the bond between the two countries.
