UAE Eases Drone Ban: Residents Ready to Capture Stunning Aerial Views

The UAE has partially lifted the ban on drone operations as of Monday, November 25. This news has thrilled photography lovers who are eager to fly their drones and capture the country’s stunning landscapes once again.

For now, the ban lift applies only to companies and government agencies, marking the first phase of the policy change. However, individuals are hopeful that personal drone use will be approved in the future.

Egyptian expat Atef Mahmoud shared his excitement. “I bought my drone just a few months before the ban started,” he said. “I had just learned how to use it and take amazing photos, but I had to pack it away because of the restrictions.”

The UAE Ministry of Interior has confirmed plans to evaluate the situation before extending the use of drones to individuals. They aim to announce future phases to include more services, such as flying drones for amateur purposes.

Atef, who has been an amateur photographer for over 10 years, is passionate about capturing the beauty of the UAE. “The UAE encourages creativity in photography,” he said. “With drones, we can showcase the stunning architecture and landscapes from unique perspectives.”

He expressed optimism about the recent developments, adding, “Even though the lift is only for companies right now, I’m hopeful that photographers like me will soon be able to use drones safely.”

For Emirati explorer Ahmed Almulla, drones are more than just a hobby—they’re an essential tool for photography. “Drones open up endless creative possibilities for professionals and hobbyists alike,” he said. However, he also emphasized the need for proper regulations.

“We hope the authorities expedite the process of issuing permits for drone enthusiasts. This will help ensure safe and responsible usage while respecting privacy and adhering to the laws,” Ahmed noted.

Ahmed also highlighted how this decision reflects the UAE’s commitment to keeping up with technological advancements while prioritizing public safety.

Sharjah resident Hassan A, another drone enthusiast, shared his thoughts on the ban lift. “Drones were my favorite hobby, and I thought I might never return to it,” he said. “While regulations are necessary to address privacy and security concerns, I hope everyone complies with the rules so we can enjoy this activity responsibly.”

Some individuals have raised concerns about drone misuse. A social media user, @kawater_144, commented, “It’s important to designate specific areas for drone use. We don’t want to be camping in the desert and worry about someone taking our pictures.”

According to the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), the UAE has designated specific zones for flying drones. These zones are clearly defined to ensure safety and responsible use.

The drone ban, initially imposed in 2022, came after several instances of misuse. Officials explained that the decision to gradually lift the ban is based on an evaluation of safety protocols and operator compliance.

For companies, government institutions, and research centers, the UAE Drones smart application is available to apply for operating licenses and ensure all legal requirements are met.
