The UAE Central Bank, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Police and Dubai Police, has issued a new warning about six common types of cyber scams, urging residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activities. This joint initiative aims to combat the increasing threat of online fraud targeting both individuals and businesses throughout the country.

Top Six Cyber Scams to Be Aware Of:
Phishing Emails:
Scammers send emails that appear to be from legitimate organizations in an attempt to steal personal and financial information.

Fraudsters inform victims that they have won lottery prizes or rewards, requesting sensitive information to claim the prize.

Job Scams:
Offers for attractive jobs either abroad or locally that require upfront payments for visas or processing fees.

Bank Account Verification Calls:
Scammers pose as bank representatives, asking for OTPs or account details under the guise of verifying accounts.

Investment Scams:
Promises of high returns on low-risk investments in fraudulent schemes.

Tech Support Scams:
Calls or emails claiming that your device has a virus and offering fake technical support for a fee.

How to Identify a Scam:
The Central Bank stresses the importance of verifying communications. Common warning signs include:

Spelling or grammatical mistakes.
Requests for confidential information like OTPs or PINs.
Unverified links or email addresses.
Residents are advised to never share personal information over the phone or online and to confirm offers or requests directly with the relevant institution.

If you come across any of these scams, it’s crucial to report the incident to:

Dubai Police: You can use the e-crime platform or call 901.
Abu Dhabi Police: Report through their official app or helpline.
Central Bank Hotline: This is available for complaints related to financial fraud.
Why This Matters:
Cybersecurity is a responsibility we all share. Being aware of these scams not only helps protect individuals but also enhances the community’s overall defense against online fraud. The proactive measures taken by the UAE demonstrate its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all its residents.
