The statistics were shared in a safety campaign video aimed at raising awareness among delivery riders. The report revealed that 181 delivery riders have sustained serious injuries in accidents over the past four years, highlighting the risks involved in ignoring traffic rules.

Causes of Accidents

The main reasons for these incidents include:

  • Sudden swerving
  • Distractions while driving
  • Overtaking from the road shoulder

Seized Vehicles and Violations

In 2024, 26,382 bicycles, motorcycles, and e-scooters were confiscated for violating traffic laws, a significant increase from 12,209 in 2023. These vehicles were involved in 428 accidents this year, up from 385 in 2023.

In September, Naif Police Station seized 3,800 e-scooters, bicycles, and e-bikes for violations such as using non-designated areas or public roads. Similarly, Al Rifa’a Police Station confiscated 1,780 scooters and bicycles for improper use in unsafe zones, including pedestrian pathways.

Dubai Police’s Safety Recommendations

Dubai Police urged cyclists and delivery riders to:

  • Follow traffic rules strictly.
  • Stick to permitted lanes and roads.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines in designated areas.

Residents were also encouraged to report unsafe behaviors through the “Police Eye” feature in the Dubai Police app or the “We Are All Police” service by calling 901.

Enhanced Traffic Laws and Safety Measures

Dubai continues to improve transportation safety with infrastructure upgrades and stricter penalties for violations. Recently, a new traffic law introduced penalties for 14 violations, including:

  • Hefty fines for jaywalking.
  • 30-day vehicle impoundments for using phones while driving, tailgating, and sudden deviation.

These efforts underline the emirate’s commitment to ensuring safer roads for everyone.
