Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri shared with Reuters on Wednesday that the group “appreciates” Lebanon’s decision to protect its people through an agreement and expressed hope for a resolution to end the Gaza conflict.

On Tuesday, Israel’s Channel 12 reported that Israel and Lebanon had reached a ceasefire agreement. The truce, announced by US President Biden, is set to take effect on Wednesday.

This ceasefire is expected to end the fighting, which has displaced hundreds of thousands in Lebanon and tens of thousands in Israel, forcing them to leave their homes.

By early Wednesday, heavy traffic was reported on roads leading to Sidon, a major southern city in Lebanon, as hundreds of displaced individuals started returning home, according to AFP correspondents.
