What Is Airport-to-Airport Visa Change?

This process is commonly used by visitors whose UAE visas are about to expire. They travel to a nearby country, apply for a new visa while waiting at the airport, and return to the UAE once the new visa is issued.

However, travel agents now advise extending visas from within the UAE instead of leaving the country. While this option is pricier, it ensures a smoother process and avoids potential complications.

Costs of Visa Change Options

Geoffrey Salatan, CEO of Geof Travel, explained that the airport-to-airport visa change typically costs Dh1,300 to Dh1,500 for a two-month visa. In contrast, extending a visa within the UAE costs about Dh1,050 for a 30-day extension.

“Previously, passengers preferred airport-to-airport changes because they could return within hours. Now, we recommend extending visas within the UAE,” Salatan said.

Real Stories of Visa Change Challenges

Khalid’s Experience

Khalid, an Indian engineer, had to leave the UAE for a visa change while preparing for a crucial job interview. He flew to a GCC country expecting a quick return, but things went wrong.

“When I arrived, my return flight was scheduled for five hours later, but my new visa hadn’t arrived,” Khalid shared. “After waiting over 36 hours, I learned my visa had been rejected.”

With no other choice, he returned to India, hoping to secure a job and return to the UAE after the National Day holidays.

Sameer’s Story

Sameer, a Pakistani visitor, faced similar issues. He left for Oman on November 21, expecting to return the same day.

“After waiting at the airport for hours, I found out my visa wasn’t approved,” Sameer said. Despite following up with his travel agent, his application was rejected. He ultimately had to fly back to Karachi.

Why Are Visas Getting Rejected?

Travel agents report an increase in rejections for airport-to-airport visa changes. Shamsheed CV, a senior consultant at Wisefox Tourism, pointed out new visa requirements that might be causing the issue. Visitors must now provide proof of accommodation, sufficient funds, and return tickets.

“We’re awaiting clarification on these changes,” Shamsheed added.

Mir Wasim Raja, Manager at Galadari International Travel Services, noted that missing mandatory documents could also delay or result in visa rejections.

What Should You Do?

  • Extend Your Visa Within the UAE: Though it costs more upfront, this option avoids the uncertainty of rejections and delays.
  • Stay Prepared: Ensure you meet all new visa requirements, including proof of accommodation, funds, and return tickets.

By staying informed and choosing safer alternatives, you can avoid unnecessary travel disruptions.
