Key Features of the Project

The new bridge is part of Phase 4 of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project, which spans 4.8 km from the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street intersection to the Falcon Interchange on Al Mina Street.

The broader project includes three bridges with a total length of 3.1 km, designed to handle up to 19,400 vehicles per hour across all lanes.

Progress Update

As of now, 71% of the project is complete, according to RTA. A second bridge connecting Al Mina Intersection to Sheikh Rashid Road and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street is scheduled to open in January 2024.

“The project supports urban growth and development along the corridor, improving connectivity and easing traffic congestion,” said Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA.

Enhancements to Traffic Flow

The newly opened bridge facilitates traffic from Sheikh Rashid Road to Infinity Bridge and spans several key areas:

  • Bridge 1: 1,335 meters long with three lanes in each direction, accommodating 10,800 vehicles per hour between Sheikh Rashid Road and Falcon Interchange.
  • Bridge 2: 780 meters long with three lanes, serving 5,400 vehicles per hour from Falcon Interchange to Al Wasl Road.
  • Bridge 3: 985 meters long with two lanes, handling 3,200 vehicles per hour from Jumeirah Street to Al Mina Street towards Falcon Interchange.

Additional Developments

The project also involves:

  • Upgrading 4.8 km of roads.
  • Improving intersections on Jumeirah Street, Al Mina Street, and Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street.
  • Constructing two pedestrian bridges, one on Sheikh Rashid Road and another on Al Mina Street.
  • Installing street lighting, advanced traffic systems, a rainwater drainage network, and an irrigation system.

“The new infrastructure ensures seamless traffic movement and aligns with Dubai’s vision to accommodate increasing urbanization,” Al Tayer added.
