Sharjah Introduces New Rules for Conditional Prisoner Release

Prisoners in Sharjah can now be granted conditional release under a new rule announced by the emirate’s Executive Council.

The decision, revealed on Tuesday, allows inmates to be eligible for parole after completing three-fourths of their sentence. However, this parole will come with specific restrictions and can last for one month or longer.

For those serving life sentences, conditional release can be considered if they have completed at least 20 years behind bars, as per the announcement.

All decisions regarding conditional release will be made by the Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police, with the emirate’s public prosecution being informed afterward.

The new rule also outlines key details such as the terms of release, obstacles that may prevent it, conditions for cancellation, and the steps for enforcing and publishing the decisions.
