Following a series of inspections targeting delivery motorcycles across Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) issued over 1,200 fines. These fines addressed issues like unsafe driving, not wearing protective gear, and using motorcycles that didn’t meet technical standards.
Inspections Across High-Traffic Areas
The inspections were conducted in busy areas such as Hessa Street, Za’abeel Street, Jumeirah Street, Downtown, Mirdif, and Motor City. This initiative aimed to improve the safety of delivery services and ensure compliance with regulations.
“The campaigns covered more than 11,000 inspections of delivery drivers, motorcycles, and facilities,” said Saeed Al Ramsi, Director of Licensing Activities Monitoring at RTA’s Licensing Agency. He also revealed that 44 motorcycles were impounded due to expired insurance or registration or being unfit for use. Additionally, 33 electric bikes were seized for operating without proper permits.
Common Violations Found
Key violations included:
- Not wearing protective gear like helmets, gloves, reflective vests, or elbow and knee guards.
- Lack of professional training certification for delivery riders.
- Reckless driving or operating unapproved motorcycles.
Awareness and Safety Initiatives
During these inspections, the RTA also organized safety workshops for more than 3,600 delivery drivers, promoting motorcycle safety and compliance. These workshops addressed common challenges faced by riders, offering practical solutions to enhance efficiency and ensure safer roads.
