Dubai has introduced a new training program to help government social workers improve their skills and stay updated with global practices in social work.
The Community Development Authority (CDA) has teamed up with the University of Birmingham for this initiative, designed to provide social workers with the latest knowledge and tools to better serve communities across Dubai.
Specialised Courses for Better Support
The program includes specialised courses in key areas of social work. The goal is to create a skilled workforce capable of supporting various groups in society, from children to senior citizens.
“This program aims to develop professionals who can make a lasting positive impact on society. It will not only improve the skills of social workers but also prepare future leaders to tackle social challenges effectively,” said Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, CDA’s director-general.
The training aligns with the Dubai Social Agenda 33, focusing on building a sustainable and efficient social sector.
Targeted Training Based on Local Needs
The program starts with a detailed analysis of the current state of social work in Dubai. This includes identifying skill gaps, reviewing existing laws and regulations, and comparing local qualifications with international standards.
From this analysis, targeted training programs will be designed. These will focus on key areas such as:
- Child protection
- Support for senior citizens
- Social case management
By addressing these areas, social workers will gain advanced skills tailored to the unique needs of Dubai’s communities.
Program Kickoff with 121 Professionals
The training will begin with an introductory workshop, bringing together 121 participants, including social specialists and counselors from Dubai’s government agencies.
